Best Travel Cribs (2026) and the Sheets That Actually Fit Each One
Reading Time - ...
Which travel crib is actually light enough to haul through an airport with a baby on your hip? But sturdy enough to give them a good night’s sleep? And once you buy it, can you even find a sheet that fits that not-quite-standard mattress?
Here’s what any parent needs to know: the best travel crib for most families weighs 13 to 15 pounds, folds into a backpack-style bag, and has a side zipper. And yes, there's a fitted sheet for nearly every model. But mattress sizes run from about 24 x 38 inches to 30 x 43 inches, so you have to match the sheet to the crib, not the other way around.
I went through the brand spec pages for eight popular travel cribs and pack n plays and pulled the numbers most reviews skip: mattress dimensions, mattress thickness, and the exact sheet that fits. It's all in one place below.

Key Summary
|
What Should You Look for in a Travel Crib?

Before I compared a single model, I made a list of what actually matters at 10 p.m. in a hotel room with a tired baby.
How Heavy Is Too Heavy?
- Under 15 pounds is the sweet spot if you're flying. Classic pack n plays with a bassinet and changer often weigh 21 to 31 pounds.
- Check whether the listed weight includes the carry bag. Guava and BabyBjörn count it; not every brand does.
Will It Fit as a Carry-On?
Folded size matters more than weight at the gate. Newton says its Compact bag (24 x 10 x 10 inches) fits most overhead bins. Guava's backpack is 24 x 12 x 8 inches, and BabyBjörn's bag is 23.5 x 19 x 5.5 inches, so compare those numbers to your airline's posted carry-on size before you pack.
How Thick Should the Mattress Be?
Travel crib mattresses are thin on purpose, usually 1.2 to 1.5 inches when the brand lists it at all. Thin is not the same as unsafe. A firm, flat, level surface covered only by a fitted sheet is exactly what the NIH Safe to Sleep campaign recommends.
How to Measure a Mattress the Brand Doesn't List
- Take the mattress out and lay it flat on the floor.
- Measure length and width across the top, edge to edge.
- Measure thickness in the middle, not at the corner seam.
- Round to the nearest half inch and match it to a sheet's listed size.
A Note on Packing:
Remove the sheet from the pad before folding the playard for travel.
Is a Side Zipper Worth It?
If you rock or nurse to sleep, yes. A zip-open side lets you lay a sleeping baby down without lifting them over a tall mesh wall. The Guava Lotus, Newton Compact, and Chicco Alfa Lite all have one.
Can You Actually Buy Sheets for It?
This is the step everyone skips. Some brands sell one sheet at $40 or more, and some sell none. Before I bought our crib, I made sure a fitted sheet existed for that exact model, which is how I ended up with the Joey + Joan 2-packs I still keep in our travel bag.
Which Are the Best Travel Cribs in 2026?
Every number below comes from the brand's own product page or spec sheet, checked in October 2026. Prices move a lot, so treat them as a starting point. Each sheet comes in a 2-pack that costs $29.99.

Guava Lotus Everywhere: Best Overall
- Best for families who fly often and want one crib from newborn to about age three.
- 15 pounds with the backpack, plus a lockable side zipper door for easy transfers.
- The mattress rests on the floor, so Guava sets no weight limit. Stop using it once your child can climb out.
- Sheet: the 41.5 x 23.5-inch mattress takes a 24 x 42-inch sheet. I use the Joey + Joan Lotus sheets because the all-around elastic stays put over that 1.4-inch edge.
BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light: Easiest Setup
- Best for parents who want a one-motion setup and the slimmest folded bag (5.5 inches thick).
- 13 pounds with the bag and all-mesh sides, but no zipper door.
- Sheet: the 41 x 23.5 x 1.2-inch mattress takes a 24 x 42-inch sheet sized for the Light.
Newton Compact Travel Crib: Best for Carry-On
- Best for flying without checking a bag. Newton says the 24 x 10 x 10-inch bag fits most overhead bins.
- 13 pounds, side zip door, and a breathable 1.5-inch mattress. Newton lists it for babies 2 months and up.
- Heads up: Newton's site showed it backordered until mid-January when I checked.
- Sheet: the 38 x 24-inch sleep surface takes a 24 x 38-inch sheet.
Chicco Alfa Lite: Lightest on Paper
- 12.5 pounds assembled, with snap-open legs and a zip-open side panel.
- The waterproof mattress wipes clean, and the fabrics zip off for washing.
- Sheet: Chicco lists the mattress at 38 x 23.5 inches, so look for a 24 x 38-inch sheet made for the Alfa Lite.
Graco Pack 'n Play On the Go: Best Budget Pack n Play
- Best for grandma's house or road trips where weight doesn't matter.
- 21.4 pounds with a full-size bassinet that folds with the frame but can be left at home.
- Sheet: Graco's classic 27 x 39-inch pad. It was listed at $79.99 but out of stock on Graco's site when I checked.
Nuna SENA aire: Best Airflow
- Mesh sides, mesh floor, and a ventilated mesh mattress, with a one-hand fold.
- 22 pounds without the bassinet, rated to 30 pounds or 35 inches.
-
Sheet: Nuna sizes its own sheet at 37 x 26.2 inches, so buy one made for the
SENA aire specifically.
4moms Breeze Plus: Best Home Base
- One push to open, one pull to close, with a bassinet and flip changer included.
- About 23 pounds and rated for playard use up to 30 pounds.
- Sheet: it needs a larger 30 x 43-inch sheet, so standard Pack 'n Play sheets won't fit.
- Pamo Babe 4-in-1 Pack and Play: Best Value
- Around $95 for a bassinet, changer, and wheels.
- About 31 pounds, so it's a car-trip crib, not a flying one.
- Sheet: it uses the common 27 x 39-inch size.
Travel Crib vs Pack n Play: Which Fits Your Family?

People use the names interchangeably, but they're built for different trips. In the US, play yards must meet the federal play yard safety standard, 16 CFR 1221, so look for that on the box, whichever style you pick.

Which Travel Crib Works Best for a Toddler?
Floor-level cribs win here. The Guava, BabyBjörn, and Newton have no weight limit because the mattress sits on the floor. Guava and BabyBjörn suggest stopping around age three, Newton at 35 inches tall, and all three once your child can climb out. Raised playards like the Nuna and 4moms top out at 30 pounds. If you need a sturdier setup for a second home, a folding crib may be the better long-term buy.
What Safe Sleep Rules Still Apply on the Road?
Travel changes the room, not the rules.
- Baby goes to sleep on their back, for every nap and every night.
- The surface is firm, flat, and level, with only a fitted sheet (NICHD).
- Nothing else goes in the crib: no pillows, bumpers, stuffed toys, or loose blankets.
- Share the room, not the bed. NICHD names a portable play yard as a safe, separate sleep space.
Why You Shouldn't Add a Topper to a Thin Travel Mattress
I get the urge. That 1.2-inch pad looks sad next to your crib mattress at home. But the AAP's 2022 safe sleep recommendations call for a firm sleep surface with no added soft bedding, and every play yard manual I read says to use only the manufacturer-provided mattress.
Extra padding can create a gap between the mattress and the mesh wall, creating an entrapment and suffocation risk. If the mattress feels uncomfortable, the fix is a snug, soft fitted sheet, not more foam.
How Should You Pack Sheets for the Trip?
Wash new sheets before the trip and refit them at home, since washing can change how a sheet fits.
- At setup, check that the sheet lies flat and the elastic grips under all four corners.
- If diaper leaks are a concern or the baby has reflux, pack a waterproof mattress cover sized for that mattress, under the sheet.
- Little ones still in a bassinet have their own packing list, which I covered in my bassinet travel guide.
For the full packing math and fit checks by crib model, see this guide to travel crib sheet sizes.
Pick the Crib First, Then Match the Sheet
The right travel crib comes down to how you travel. Fly a lot? Go light, under 15 pounds, ideally with a side zipper. Mostly road trips? A Pack 'n Play gives you more for less. Either way, the mattress size decides which sheet you need, and a sheet that fits is the only bedding your baby needs in there.
Once you've picked your crib, find the Joey & Joan sheet sized for your exact travel crib or playard. They come in 2-packs of OEKO-TEX jersey cotton for $29.99, which covers a weekend away right out of the box.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best travel crib?
For most families, it's the Guava Lotus Everywhere: 15 pounds, a side zipper, and usable until about age three. If carry-on size matters most, pick the Newton Compact.
Travel crib vs pack n play: what's the difference?
A travel crib is lighter with a floor-level mattress built for flying. A pack n play is heavier, raised off the floor, and often adds a bassinet or changer.
Can a baby sleep overnight in a travel crib?
Yes, as long as it meets the federal play yard standard and you use only its own mattress with a fitted sheet.
What sheets fit a Guava Lotus?
A 24 x 42-inch sheet made for the Lotus's 41.5 x 23.5-inch mattress. Standard 27 x 39 pack n play sheets are too short and too wide.
How many sheets should I pack?
Two for a weekend and three for a week, plus one more if your baby spits up a lot or you won't have a washer.
Does a BabyBjörn sheet fit a Guava Lotus?
The mattresses are within half an inch of each other, so a 24 x 42-inch sheet usually fits both. Always check that it lies flat before bedtime.
